West Chicago

The City of West Chicago is located along the western edge of DuPage County and spans 15 square miles. West Chicago is situated along Illinois Route 59, which has interchanges at both I-88 and I-90, and is home to DuPage Airport, the third-busiest airport in Illinois. Three major rail lines serve West Chicago. Metra passenger service provides regular commuter service to Chicago, with an estimated 600 commuters boarding daily at the West Chicago Metra station.

The West Chicago area features a population base of 400,000 within an 8 mile radius, with regional incomes ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 for a majority of those households.

The City operates under a council/manager form of local government. The City Council consists of a mayor and fourteen aldermen within seven wards. The citizens also elect a city clerk. West Chicago has long utilized public/private partnerships, specifically to achieve new real estate development and investment in the community. The City of West Chicago offers a variety of business incentives, including TIF Districts in the Downtown Central Business District, and in the North Ave./Route 59 area, façade grants, retail grants and personalized site selection assistance. The City has always pursued varied sources of revenue resulting in a low tax rate in DuPage County.

West Chicago provides a pleasant mixture of established neighborhoods, including everything from new subdivisions to historic neighborhoods, where streets are lined with mature trees. West Chicago has a green belt of permanent open space thanks to the strategic location of several area forest preserves. More than 800 acres of open space, forest lands and prairies are at its doorstep or within a few minutes travel.
