Northwestern Medicine Welcomes Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital To The Health System

Chicago and Wheaton, IL – March 1, 2016 – Northwestern Memorial HealthCare announced today that Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital has become the newest member of Northwestern Medicine. In addition to the hospital and outpatient clinics, the Marianjoy Medical Group and the Marianjoy Foundation have joined the health system.

“Marianjoy provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for children and adults,” said Dean M. Harrison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. “We are pleased to be able to partner with the Marianjoy team of physicians, nurses and staff to expand access to rehabilitation care for our patients.” Marianjoy was founded in 1972 by the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters. With 100 acute medical rehabilitation beds and 27 skilled nursing beds, Marianjoy is dedicated to the delivery of physical medicine and rehabilitation programs, including stroke, neuromuscular, orthopaedic, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and pediatrics. “This is a great opportunity for Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital to join a nationally ranked academic health system,” said Kathleen Yosko, who will remain president of the hospital. “Our patients and their families, as well as physicians, nurses and staff will benefit from this partnership.” NMHC and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare signed a letter of intent to transfer Marianjoy in October 2015. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved the change in ownership in December 2015.
