Spotlight on Naperville IL

From hotels to national retailers to distribution and corporate office suites, Naperville IL is bustling with economy activity. The Naperville Development Partnership recently provided the following highlights. Read more here.

Freedom Plaza Located at Abriter & I-88 Just down the road from the popular Freedom Commons development, Freedom Plaza is home to the highly anticipated Convention Center. The 168-room Embassy Suites will host four restaurants and a banquet facility with capacity for 750-1,000. This will be the largest hotel meeting space in Naperville, which already has 17 hotels and over 2,000 rooms. Water Street Located in downtown Naperville Just off Main Street, East of City Hall, this development has gained momentum in the last year with plans for restaurants, several retail outlets, a parking garage, and an Indigo Hotel that will boast 160 rooms complete with a rooftop lounge. Construction will begin this spring, with an anticipated opening in 2015. Auto Motor Plex, Naperville Located at Ferry Road & Route 59 Tucked in the North West corner of Naperville, plans for the Auto Motor Plex include the development of approximately 18 acres of land annexed into Naperville. Auto Motor Plex will be designed for the motorsport enthusiast, providing a fun, quality place to store your car collection with areas to entertain. The development will house 11 acres of motor condos and 7 acres of retail and commercial space. Main Street Promenade East Located at Main and Van Buren Streets in downtown Naperville Developed by BBM, Inc. to match the existing Main Street Promenade, Main Street Promenade East will wrap the Van Buren Parking Garage with a combination of office suites and retailers. Confirmed first floor retail includes; Anthropologie, Ann Taylor, Blue Mercury, J Crew, and Frost Gelato. Construction on this new development expects to be completed in Summer 2014. Main Place Located on Jefferson Avenue in downtown Naperville Main Place, best known as home of the Apple store, is excited to welcome new stores including Sephora, Apricot Lane, and Pure Barre. These retailers will be opening in the first half of 2014. Freedom Commons Located at Diehl Road and Freedom Drive This development, which sprang up in 2010 with well-known restaurants including Maggiano’s Little Italy, Morton’s Steakhouse, and White Chocolate Grill has continued to see growth as well as popularity. Recently purchased by Inland Real Estate, we will soon see IFly Indoor Sky-Diving and the Cigar Bar, opening Spring 2014. Ozark Distribution Located on North Aurora Road The 360,000 square foot build to suit facility is currently under construction, and opening in Summer 2014. The opening of this distribution center will create 300 new jobs. WalMart Super Store Located at 75th Street and Beebe Drive The retention, relocation (from another space in Naperville) and expansion of WalMart into a Super Store is a big economic win for Naperville. Not only does the super store bring significant property and sales tax revenue, they still own their location on Ogden Avenue and Route 59 and plan to lease it out. Standard Market Located at Aurora and Ogden Avenue Westmont-based Standard Market will be making its way into Naperville, taking over the vacant plot near Ogden and Aurora Avenues, formerly home of Frank’s Nursery. Construction is already underway, and this specialty grocer will be opening its doors by Summer 2014. In addition to the activity outlined above, Naperville also has several new businesses coming into town including; Inplex Custom Extruders, Fiat, Aquagenics Technologies, and DeEtta’s Bakery. “It’s been a busy year,” said Christine Jeffries, President of the Naperville Development Partnership. “Having this much new development has been outstanding, and add to that the new businesses that have and will open their doors brings a lot of opportunity to Naperville, and to DuPage County” said Jeffries.
