The ComEd service territory covers 11,411 square miles in Northern Illinois, stretching from the Wisconsin border to as far south as Pontiac, Illinois, and from the Indiana border to the Mississippi River. It covers approximately 70 percent of the population in Illinois and the vast majority of the State’s industrial companies. Our transmission and distribution systems are very robust, with more than 5,000 miles of overhead transmission lines and approximately 43,400 miles of overhead distribution lines and 42,300 miles of underground distribution lines.
ComEd’s peak system demand is just over 22,000 MW. In order to keep pace with the growing needs of business and consumers in our service territory, ComEd has invested more than $3 billion since 2001 as part of our ongoing commitment to improving system-wide reliability through a transmission and distribution infrastructure modernization and enhancement program to ensure the continued safe and reliable delivery of electricity. The benefits of the reliability improvement plan are already evident – the average number of customer outages is down significantly (44% fewer outages) as are the length of customer outages (53% faster restoration times when outages do occur).
Nicor Gas, an AGL Resources Company, has been part of the fabric of the communities in northern Illinois and the Chicago suburbs for five decades. Nicor Gas operates a network of more than 32,000 miles of pipelines, connected to the largest underground storage facilities in the country. This helps ensure reliable natural gas delivery to customers year round.
By helping a company to determine its energy needs from the beginning of the site selection process, Nicor can provide energy savings ideas to maximize a company’s efficiency and lower operating costs. www.nicorgas.aglr.com
